S Fold Sheer Curtains

S-Fold sheer curtains are a modern looking style of curtain where the undulations in the fabric are achieved through the spacing of the carriers and the tape. This is a popular choice for architects and designers, partly because the curtains have no back – that is, they appear the same from either side. There are many reasons to love S-Fold Curtains, namely as they have a very appealing and versatile look. Both modern and simple enough to suit a more traditional lounge room or bedroom.

Due to their construction, S-Fold curtains create less bulky ‘stacking’ when open compared to other curtain types, giving you have a better view. S-Fold curtains really showcase the fabric in your drapery. More pattern and colour is visible with this style rather than getting folded away in pleats.

S-fold curtains can be used to create sleek and clean lines and are a very elegant window covering.

Eyelet Curtains

Eyelet headings remain an extremely popular choice, particularly for residential projects. This hand-crafted heading requires a combination of the craft and skill of an experienced curtain maker, along with the correct equipment and technique for inserting the metal eyelets. At Melbourne Shutters and Blinds, we have both of these requirements covered. Eyelet curtains are a modern way of hanging a curtain from a metal pole, the process involves punching a hole into the top of the finished curtain and pressing in a metal eyelet. Eyelet curtains can be unlined or lined- the general fullness rule is 1.5 – 2.0 times fullness but this can increase if you wish a fuller look to your eyelet curtains.

Eyelet curtains can only be used with curtain poles and have a very contemporary and almost industrial feel. Curtains with eyelet headings give large, even and naturally soft folds.

This type of heading means that not as much fabric is required therefor it’s a great option for showing off prints.

Colours of the poles include stainless steel, black, gold, antique brass and a range of different metal ball finials are available.

Pleated Curtains

There are 4 different types of pleated curtain headings that we offer at Melbourne Shutters and Blinds:

  • Pencil pleating is one of the most common treatments, using a greater width of fabric with evenly spaced narrow pleats. This treatment is versatile, working well with prints and plains and most different textures. The finish is casual and cosy, perfect for the lounge or bedroom. There are loose pencil pleats and tight pencil pleats, both of which create a full appearance.
  • Another pleated option is French or Triple Pinch pleats which are groups of triple pleats, spaced evenly along the curtain which create a formal heading, with the benefit of very neat stacking to the side. This style is ideal for a formal dining room or can be used for practical reasons where there is not much wall space beside the window.
  • The double pinched pleat is similar to the French style but with double pleats, this treatment has the benefits of French pleating but creates a style which balances casual with traditional, perfect for any room setting.
This style works equally well with prints, but is seen at its best with textured plains.
  • The New York pleat, also known as inverted pleating, creates a simple, modern look which also requires less fabric than some other styles. Plain fabrics or those with textured weaves are complemented best by this treatment, which also stacks efficiently when curtains are drawn back from the window.
